Les Alexander

Les Alexander was born on April 21st , 1923 in a log cabin two miles south of Oakville, MB.

He was the middle child in a family of ten children. His father was a Manitoba Champion fiddle player. Without the luxury of a steady job, the family survived mostly on welfare.
In 1941 Les joined the air force and became a pilot. Canadian Pacific Airlines was running the bomber training program out of Portage La Prairie. Les was given a special leave to work for them as a civilian pilot.
When the war ended he and his wife Betty headed to Flin Flon in 1946. At that time, Flin Flon had the highest per capita income in the province. They started a taxi business and later a fuel business.
In 1953 they opened the Gas Bar and eventually sold in 1956 to British American Oil, and today Petro Canada owns it.
In 1955 Les started selling used auto parts on the outskirts of town. His four children grew up with the auto ranch and today after 55 years in business his sons Rick and Rod employ 30 people.
Les Alexander was Flin Flon’s first and biggest recycler.
Les was 82 years old when he passed away on November 11, 2005 —Veterans Day
From humble beginnings Les took on the world with one motto:
“Fear Shall Not Be Boss”
